2013 WSOP – Eli Elezra Wins Event #59

Event #59, the $2.5k Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball event of the 2013 WSOP has made quite a point this year: apparently, 2-7 Triple Draw is the new game of the pros. What else would explain the outstanding popularity of the event among the “name” players, and the final table, which was quite positively one of the most stacked of the year?
The eventual winner of the event was well-known pro Eli Elezra, who picked up the bracelet and the $173.2k top prize. The bracelet was Elezra’s second: he took down his first back in 2007, when he won the $3k Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8 or better event. None of Elezra’s bracelets came easily though. For his first one, he battled and eventually bested Scotty Nguyen heads-up. For this one, he had to dispose of PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu heads-up. Despite the relative rarity of WSOP bracelets in his poker-playing career, Elezra is not discouraged: in his post-victory interview, he said he intended to add about 5 more pieces of WSOP gold to his tally.

The beginning of the final day of action saw 10 players return to the tables. 6 of those 10 players were previous bracelet winners. The first one to bite the dust was Mike Watson. He was followed to the rail by Michael Mizrachi and Alexander Condon. Eric Vasserson was the next victim, whose elimination set the official 6-handed final table. Scott Seiver was the first victim of the final table. He was followed by David Baker and David Chiu. Brian Brubaker was left with the shortest stack and soon he busted out too, leaving Daniel Negreanu and Elezra heads-up. Negreanu held the chip advantage when the heads-up bout got going, but Elezra fought back and he managed to turn the tables completely within 41 hands.
PokerStars’ online WSOP 2013 qualifiers are without a doubt the best in the business.
