The $1.5k PL
Holdem event saw its second day go into the books about an hour and a half ago. Of the 535 original players, only 62 returned to the tables on Day 2, looking to earn a ticket for day 3. At the end of the day, the official 9-handed final table was set, after 8 levels of action. The player to finish with the largest stack was Eric Crain, who built a stack of 620k chips. Crain has been on something of a roll at the
2013 WSOP lately: he’s finished 4th in event #8, the $2.5k 8-game Mix a couple of days ago.
The first objective of Day 2 was obviously to reach the money. Before the bubble burst, several notables were forced to hit the rail, tail between legs and nothing to show for their efforts. Jeremy Ausmus was one of these cash-less victims. He was joined on the sidelines by Griffin Benger and Melanie Weisner.
The bursting of the money-bubble brought about the usual loosening of the action and scores more pros were eliminated during this stretch. Martin Staszko was eliminated during this stage, together with the defending champion of the event, Nick Jivkov. Matt Stout and
PokerStars pro Jason Mercier were eliminated in the money as well.
Allen Cunningham had a rather un-spectacular day, but towards the end, he managed to fire up the thrusters, taking down a massive pot from Jaspal Brar at the end of a set-over-set perfect hand.
Crain, the eventual leader, had a high-variance ride, but in the end, he took a massive pot off Jonathan Roy, knocking the latter out in 15th place. That pot gave Crain the lead for good, and he never relinquished it till the final table was set.
PokerStars offers WSOP 2013 online qualifiers starting from a few dollars/VPPs.
