2013 WSOP – Event #17 Plays Down to Final 15

The second day of the $1.5k NL Holdem event of the
2013 WSOP (#17) was an action-packed affair. The start of the day saw 226 players belly up to the tables, from an original starting field of 2,105. With the money bubble just over the horizon, the early Day 2 action was tight and cautious. 10 players needed to go before the remaining survivors could breathe a sigh of relief.
After the money bubble burst, the action sped up again and quite a number of name players met the end of their tournament lives during this stage. James Dempsey was one of these players: he was eliminated in 150th place. Jake Cody fared better, but not much better: he ran his stack ashore in 126th place. Vanessa Selbst made the top 60, but that was it for her. Matt Jarvis made it all the way to 37th place, while Jacob Balsiger busted in 31st. Joe Kuether made it into 26th place, but he too missed the day 3 bus along with the others.
When the end of the day 2 action came, David Baker was the one holding the largest stack. He built a stack of 1.38 million chips. Samuel Taylor finished in second place, with 1.21 million chips to his name. There was only one other player who made it past the 1 million chip mark: third place man Athanasios Polychronopoulos, who finished with 1.13 million.
Only 15 players were left standing when the action was called.
PokerStars pro Joe Cada made the cut: he finished 9th, with 540k chips to his name. Cada has been having a great run lately: he finished 4th in the $1.5k Six max event early in the Series.
Barry Greenstein made the top 15 as well.
