2013 WSOP – Event #20 Fails to Produce a Winner

Event #20 of the 2013 WSOP, the $1.5k Omaha Hi/Low 8 or Better event, had a tough day 3, the initial goal of which had been to play down to a winner and to award a bracelet. That goal didn’t come to fruition though as the field only managed to play down to the heads-up stage by the time the scheduled 10 levels were completed. The start of the 3rd day saw 22 players return to the tables, looking to grab the top prize. The heads-up stage was reached, but after about an hour of dueling, Calen McNeil and Kim Hua failed to decide a winner.
Hua was the one who started the heads-up stage with the advantage, having a 5-2 chip lead over his opponent. McNeil came storming back though, so when the action was called at the end of the day, he was the one in the lead by a margin of about 3-1.

The 3rd day began with a number of “name” player eliminations: Randy Ohel, Jennifer Harman and Maria Ho were among those who fell victim to the early attrition.
John Monnette and Todd Brunson made the final table. While Monnette ran his stack ashore in 7th place, Brunson made it all the way to 3rd place, falling to Kim Hua. The flop was 10d,Ac,9s when Brunson fired out a continuation bet. Hua decided to tag along and he saw the Qs fall on the turn. Brunson once again attempted to take down the pot firing out yet another bet and Hua tagged along yet again. The river was the 2s and Brunson checked this time, calling his opponent’s bet. Hua had the As, Ks for the nut flush and he took down the pot, leaving Brunson with only a few chips in his stack.
McNeil swooped in for the kill a few hands later.
