A few minutes ago, event #28 of the
2013 WSOP, the $1.5k NL Holdem one, wrapped up with the victory of Jason Duval. Duval bested Majid Yahyaei heads-up, claiming the bracelet and the $521.2k top prize.
Duval pulled off quite a trick in the poker tournament which saw an initial starting field of 2,115 players belly up to its tables: he was the Day 1 chip leader and he actually managed to go on and win it all. Although he cannot really be considered a “name” competitor (or rather, couldn’t be considered that prior to his win), Duval was no stranger to the world of high stakes
tournament poker: he’d logged another 6-figure finish, busting out in 3rd place in a WPT event earlier this year.
The beginning of the 3rd day of the event saw 16 players return to the tables. TJ Cloutier, the infamous pro was in the running when the action kicked off, and being pretty much the only “name” player left in the field, he drew the attention of the press upon himself. His final day run wouldn’t last long though: he was bounced in 13th place, sent to the rail by Tommy Townsend. Townsend had a pair of Qs against Cloutier’s A,K in a classic coin-flip confrontation and his hand held up on a board full of bricks.
It took the Day 3 starting field about 3 hours to work its way down to the official final table. Masayuki Nagata – who had started the day with the largest stack – pushed Dan Martin out of the way in 5th place. Nagata would eventually wind up in 3rd place.
It took Duval 2 hours of heads-up back and forth to dispose of Majid Yahyaei in second place. The reward of the runner-up was $324.4k.
