2013 WSOP – Event #40 Plays Through its Second Day

The second day of event #40, the $1.5k NL Holdem one of the 2013 WSOP went into the books a couple of hours ago and it saw its field play down to the final 21. A total of 249 players returned to the tables of another $1.5k NL Holdem event on Day 2. Nicolas Fierro started out with the biggest stack and at the end of the day, he was still the one sitting atop the chip count. Fierro managed to build a stack of 965k chips.
The interesting thing about Day 2 was that the proximity of the money bubble (set for 244th place) meant some pretty frigid early action. The unfortunate bubble-boy of the event turned out to be none other than October Niner Jacob Balsiger, whose elimination landed all the other survivors in the money.
Past the bubble, the action sped up quite a bit, and during this stage, scores of notables found the way to the rail. Aaron Massey was one of the first victims of this post-bubble massacre. Others who hit the rail were Maxim Lykov, Brendon Rubie, Jeremy Ausmus, Matt Salsberg and Andrew Lichtenberger, who made it all the way to 52nd place.

Given the pro-heavy nature of the field, it surprised no one that despite the high number of “name” players who were bounced during the day, quite a few of them made the top 21.
Allen Cunningham was one of these players, and he finished on a healthy stack as well: his 697k chips were enough to land him in 5th place. Matt Berkey had an even better day: he finished second with 886k chips to his name.
Griffin Benger finished on a healthy stack as well: 610k chips. Other notables who made the cut were Kara Scott and Jared Hamby.
