2013 WSOP – Event #44 Plays Through its Second Day

The second day of event #44 of the 2013 WSOP, the $3k NL Holdem one, saw 229 players return to its tables, hoping to have their tickets punched for the third – and presumably last – day of the event. After the usual 10 levels of action, only 22 players managed to fulfill that objective.
Niall Farrell was the one who finished the day with the most chips: his 792k chip stack managed to edge out Michael Rocco’s 780k for the provisional lead.

The first objective of the day was the reaching and the bursting of the money bubble. Around half of the start of the day field was forced to leave the event empty-handed. Ryan D’Angelo and Matthias de Meulder were among those who got nothing but the proverbial wooden spoon, together with Sam Stein, PokerStars’ Jonathan Duhamel and Dan Kelly. There were quite a few “name” players who managed to make it past the bubble, but failed to advance deeper into the money.
Randy Lew was one of these players: he fell in 113th place. Sorel Mizzi and Dominik Nitsche were bounced after the bubble too, together with Mark Radoja and Joe Kuether. The latter made it all the way to 34th place.
Matt Marafioti was the last player to bite the dust on day 2: he was eliminated in 23rd place.

PokerStars’ Jason Mercier made the cut, and he will obviously have the eyes of the press on him on Day 3. He finished with a decent-sized stack of about 556k chips.
Will Jaffe made it to day 3 as well: he will bring 425k chips back with him to the tables. Nam Le, and Marco Johnson were among the survivors as well, but they’re both on much smaller stacks.

When it comes to 2013 WSOP online qualifiers, PokerStars are yet again the best of the best.
