Event #47 of the
2013 WSOP, the $111,111 NL Holdem One Drop High Roller, was supposed to play down to a winner today, but a couple of hours ago, the action ground to a halt with 4 players still in the running. Apparently, there will be an unscheduled 4th day added to decide the winner.
The resilience of the 4 remaining players isn’t exactly a surprise, considering who we’re dealing with here. The winner of the biggest ever live poker tournament, the $1 million buy-in Big One for One Drop, Antonio Esfandiari, is among the survivors and he’s obviously aiming to mount a sort of title defense here, even though this year’s high roller isn’t quite comparable in buy-in and prize-pool to last year’s Big One.
Anthony Gregg and Chris Klodnicki are also among the survivors, but the player taking the largest stack into Day 4 is Bill Perkins, a businessman who had 14.7 million chips bagged.
26 players returned to action at the beginning of the day, and it goes without saying that most of them were “name” pros indeed. It took about an hour for the first victim to hit the rail: Haralabos Voulgaris was the one to become more closely acquainted with the sidelines, after Connor Drinan sent him there in 26th.
Yevgeniy Timoshenko ended up as the official bubble-boy of the event, biting the dust in 25th place. With the bubble out of the way, the action loosened up a bit again, and Steve Gross soon hit the rail in 24th place, picking up $173.7k. He was followed by Dan Shak, Jason Koon, Shaun Deeb and Phil Laak.
The last player to bite the dust on Day 3 was Richard Fullerton, who was bounced in 5th place by Esfandiari on a pocket 10s vs pocket 6s match-up.
