2013 WSOP – Event #47 within 2 Players of the Money

The second day of event #47, the $111,111
NL Holdem One Drop High Roller, saw its second day of action go into the books today, sprinkled with a little bit of controversy on top. After the scheduled 10 levels of action, the field found itself a mere 2 players away from the money. Participants would’ve obviously liked to play past the money-bubble on Day, even more so given the fact that according to the
WSOP rules, there would be a complete re-draw at the beginning of the third day.
A total of 26 players remained in action, with Martin Jacobson of Sweden leading the way. Jacobson finished Day 2 with 3.25 million chips to his name. The Swede barely edged out Connor Drinan for the lead: Drinan had some 5k fewer chips bagged than he.
Brandon Steven, the Day 1 chip leader had a decent Day 2 run as well: he finished with 3.14 million chips, while Matt Glantz finished 5k chips over the 3 million mark.
Obviously, with such a large buy-in, most of the players involved in the action were “name” players. Last year’s Big One for One Drop Winner, Antonio Esfandiari played as well and he managed to finish the day in possession of a healthy stack too: he had 2.97 million chips bagged. He will be joined on Day 3 by Martin Finger (who ended Day 2 with 2.91 million chips), Phil Laak, Anthony Gregg and Shaun Deeb. Jeremy Ausmus will be back in action as well, albeit he’ll start as one of the short-stacks with just 995k chips to his name.
PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu failed to make it past Day 2. Eugene Katchalov, Dan Kelly, Ahmed Owais and Jason Mercier joined him on the rail.
Playing at PokerStars before the 2013 WSOP Main Event kicks off, makes more sense than ever.
