2013 WSOP – Event #49 Plays Through its Second Day

Event #49 of the 2013 WSOP was yet another $1.5k NL Holdem affair, and as such it was indeed rather popular with the general public. About an hour ago, it put its second day of action in the rearview mirror, as its field successfully played down to the final 21. The player who finished Day 2 with the largest stack was Robin Ylitalo, who had 1.15 million chips bagged.
Although the poker public may not yet be particularly familiar with Ylitalo’s name, the Swedish professional is by no means new to the green felt: he has made several deep runs in major European poker events, and he made the final tables of a couple of EPT Main Events as well. He’s played in the WSOP too, and he has one cash to his name thus far: he finished 32nd in a $1.5k NL Holdem event last year. Obviously, he’s already improved quite a bit on that result.

Besides the chip leader, only one other player managed to take his stack into 7–figure territory: Paul DaSilva finished with 1.12 million chips to his name. As far as the “name” crowd is concerned: it will have to settle for being represented on Day 3 by Kevin MacPhee and Barny Boatman. While they’re both doubtlessly capable, none of these two players finished day 2 with healthy enough stacks to start day 3 as real contenders. Boatman had 347k bagged while MacPhee finished with a rather flimsy 136k chips. MacPhee found himself in a pretty tight spot during the day when at one point he was down to about 3 BBs. He clawed his way back into contention though and he eventually managed to have his Day 3 ticket punched.
The eventual winner of the event will take down the bracelet and a top prize of $546k.
