The 4th day of the $50k Poker Players’ Championship went into the books today and a winner is still yet to be determined. At least today, the money bubble was put in the rearview mirror. 26 players returned to the tables at the beginning of the day and believe it or not, the money bubble was their first objective. The eventual objective of the day was for the field to play down to the final table, and when the action was called, that objective had indeed been attained.
Don Nguyen started the day as the chip leader and he finished it on the same note: he had 5.68 million chips bagged.
John Juanda was the first victim of the day: he was eliminated in 26th place, leaving the
poker tournament without anything to show for his efforts. He was joined on the rail by Joe Hachem and Stephen Chidwick, who also busted well before the money bubble. Justin Smith, Erick Lindgren and Greg Mueller fell before the money-bubble too.
Mike Leah and Max Pescatori had to go too before the bubble was reached. As it later turned out, Pescatori would become the bubble boy of the event, because Gary Benson and Joe Cassidy were bounced simultaneously, so they both earned $55.9k, half of what 16th place was worth.
Following the bursting of the money bubble, the pace of the action picked up again. Troy Burkholder was the first one to bust in the money and to take down a full prize: he was rewarded with $111.89k for his 15th place. Kevin Song followed him to the rail, followed in turn by Tommy Hang. Brynn Kenney was bounced too, followed by Huck Seed. Seed pushed his last chips into the middle on an A,Jo against Matthew Ashton’s Ah, Kh.
