2013 WSOP – Isaac Hagerling Wins Event #27

Isaac Hagerling was no stranger to the WSOP prior to his win in the $3k NL Holdem Mixed Max event - #27 of the
2013 WSOP - either, but success had mostly eluded him before. He cashed no fewer than 3 times, but his total was just a rather un-impressive $14.3k. His victory in event #27 changed all that though: having taken down a $372.3k prize in addition to the bracelet, Hagerling can probably count himself among the heavy-hitters of the
poker world now.
When the heads-up stage of the event was reached (at the beginning of day 3) he was already well-positioned for the title-run: 3rd in chips, he was the 3rd seed and he did indeed take full advantage of his position.
In the round of 32, he took on Markus Gonsalves, who barely had any chips compared to his stack. He then disposed of Nick Binger in the round of 16 and took on Yevgeniy Timoshenko in the round of 8. He busted Timoshenko’s bluff for the win and moved on to battle Jeremy Ausmus in the final 4. Having disposed of Ausmus, he became one of two players to return for action on Day 4. His opponent for the final stage of the poker tournament was Max Steinberg.
For the first 69 hands of their heads-up bout, the action see-sawed quite a bit, with the chip advantage firmly on Hagerling’s side. By the 69th hand though, Steinberg had managed to even up the chip counts. As soon as the stacks were even, Hagerling felt compelled to get something going, so he pushed all-in with a K,10 on a board of 7,3,K,5 against Steinberg’s A,K. the 10 which fell on the river saved him from elimination and gave him a massive lead. Steinberg did attempt to fight back again, but 34 hands later, it was all over.
