The third and final day of the $1.5k PLO Hi/Lo Eight or Better event (#31 of the
2013 WSOP), saw 14 players return to the tables looking to play down to a winner. At that point in the
poker tournament, Jarred Graham was dead last in chips and hard-pressed to find a way to stave off elimination. Not only did he manage to do just that, he went on to win the whole thing, taking down the bracelet and the $255.9k top prize.
Within the first 20 minutes of the day, he pushed his stack into the middle several times. His first victim was Grzegorz Derkowski, who doubled him up, leaving himself crippled in the process. He bit the dust a few hands later. Mel Randolph and Andy Seth followed Derkowski to the rail in short order. Stephen Johnson and David Brooker hit the rail as well, and before the remaining survivors knew it, the final table had been set.
At the beginning of the day, the eyes of the press were on Perry Green, a multiple bracelet-winner, whose last bracelet came 35 years ago. Another bracelet-win from Green would indeed have made quite a story. Unfortunately, his tournament life came to an end at Barry Greenstein’s hands in 9th place. The next player to bite the dust was Joao Simao, followed to the rail by Eric Rodawig. Barry Greenstein had the chip lead at the point in the event as Graham took a little bit of a breather after his excellent start. Loni Harwood was eliminated in 6th place, followed by Gabriel Blumenthal in 5th.
Graham finally got going, scoring an elimination himself: he sent Noomis Jones to the rail in 4th place. He then swooped in on Greenstein and bounced him too in 3rd place. The last opponent standing between Graham and the title was Marco Johnson.
