2013 WSOP – Jonathan Taylor Wins Event #14

Event #14 of the 2013 WSOP finally played down to a winner about an hour ago, after three days of grueling green felt action. The $1.5k NL Holdem event saw no fewer than 1,819 players belly up to its tables at its beginning. Today, Jonathan Taylor remained the only player at the table, pocketing the gold bracelet and the $454.4k prize that came with it.
Taylor was well positioned at the beginning of the final day of action: having started off with the second biggest stack, he swung his chips around skillfully to work his way up the ranks.
Before the final table was reached on Day 3 of the event, Chris Hunichen, and Russell Crane were bounced together with a handful of other players. Having reached the home stretch of the poker tournament, Taylor decided he would sit back and watch the others go at it for a while.
The first player to be bounced from the final table was Joseph Pergola. He was followed out the door by Dan Gannon, who was bounced by Taylor.

Being able to sit back and wait it out to strike in the most opportune moments proved to be instrumental for Taylor’s victory. Jed Hoffman was sent to the rail next, followed by Patrick Kubat in 6th place. Tommy Vu and start of the day chip leader Hiren Patel followed. Tommy Vu was the first player to reach 6-figures prize-wise; he took home $102.4 k for his efforts. Hunter Frey’s elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the event.
By that time, Taylor had secured a 2-1 chip advantage over his heads-up opponent, Blake Bohn, and he planned to take full advantage of that lead. The final hand of the tournament saw Taylor’s K,9 best Bohn’s A,5.
