Event #38, the $2.5k NL Holdem Four-handed one of the
2013 WSOP went into the books earlier today, and its winner was Justin Oliver, the player who has dreamt about taking down the elusive WSOP jewelry for his entire poker career. Oliver took down a $309k prize to go with his bracelet.
The last day of the
poker tournament saw 8 players return to the tables, with David Pham holding the largest stack. The 8 players made exactly two full tables, thanks to the 4-handed nature of the event. The first player to bite the dust was Jonathan D’Souza, who fell at David Pham’s hands after only a few hands in the event. D’Souza had a J,10o on a flop of 6,3,2 and Pham made the call with pocket deuces. Daniel Park and Mike DeGilio fell next, leaving 5 players in contention, who were then moved to the unofficial final table.
5-handed action froze a little as there weren’t any new eliminations for the next hour and a half. Then, it all came crashing down for Pham, the start of the day chip leader, who was bounced together with John Juanda in a double elimination.
The chips went into the middle on a flop of Q,3,4 rainbow. Nick Schwarmann had As, 7s for the 4-card flush, Pham had a Ks, Js and Juanda had a Qc, 2c. The 5d fell on the turn, followed by the 3s on the river to fill both flush draws. Schwarmann had the better flush though and both Juanda and Pham bit the dust.
Jared Jaffe busted out next and his elimination set up the heads-up stage of the event. It then took Justin Oliver 125 hands to dispose of Schwarmann in second place to pick up the much-coveted title.
Winner Poker’s online WSOP 2013 qualifiers carry some outstanding value indeed.
