Event #26 of the
2013 WSOP was the Seniors’ $1k NL Holdem Championship event and as such, it drew a lot of attention on the part of the mainstream poker press and railbirds alike. No fewer than 4,407 players coughed up the buy-in for this one, after all, it was a championship event indeed. After 3 days of action, the mammoth field managed to churn out a winner: Kenneth Lind walked away with the prestigious title and the $634.8k prize. Lind defeated Dana Ott heads-up to grab the win and the Golden Eagle trophy which now bears his name. Following his win, Lind said that playing in the Seniors’ event had been a goal of his he intended to follow through on.
He first emerged as a potential contender for the title about halfway through the
poker tournament, taking down several big pots and keeping up the pressure. He started the final day of the event second in chips and he continued to push the style of play which landed him in that position to begin with. When the final table kicked off, he was still second in chips and in an excellent position indeed to mount a title-run.
Hoyt Corkins was among the starters at the beginning of the day, but he became one of the early casualties, together with Larry Wright and Mark Kroon. The first victim of the final table was Fernando Halac, sent to the rail by Lind. Lind was the one responsible for the second elimination of the home stretch too: that of Jack Ward.
James Miller was bounced next, followed in turn by Michel Bouskila. Randy Spain and Barry Bashist bit the dust as well. Dana Ott then bounced John Holley to set up the heads-up stage.
Dana Ott’s share of the prize-money was a respectable $390.6k.
