2013 WSOP – Levi Berger Wins Event #11

The 7th day of the
2013 WSOP saw one of the most dynamic and interesting events play down to a winner: event #11, the $2.5k NL Holdem 6-handed one, came to an end with Levi Berger’s victory. Berger bested a starting field which included quite a few “name” professionals. As a matter of fact, Berger couldn’t get rid of the high profile crowd until the heads-up stage of the
poker tournament, when he bested Scott Clements heads-up.
Only 14 players returned to the tables on the 3rd day of the event, looking to play down to a winner. No one was in a hurry to put his tournament life onto the line in the beginning, which meant that the first elimination of the day didn’t come by until the 1-hour mark.
The first player to bite the dust was Tamara Tibbles, the last woman still standing in the event. Her departure turned the tournament into an all-male affair. The one responsible for her elimination was Mickey Petersen.
Tuan Le took a nasty bad beat to hit the rail in 10th place. He got his chips into the middle with pocket rockets against Eddy Sabat’s pocket 7s. A third 7 fell on the river to send Le packing.
Mickey Petersen was bounced in 9th place and then Clements swung into action, eliminating Marcio Cid and Clifford Goldkind in 8th and 7th places respectively to set up the official final table. David Gonia was the first victim of the final table. He was followed to the rail by Jacob Bazeley. Eddy Sabat fell next, sent to the rail by Berger, who was putting together a hot streak. He then busted Ben Palmer too to set up the heads-up stage of the event.
Heads-up play was over in less than one hour. Berger picked up $473k to go with his gold bracelet.
