2013 WSOP Main Event – and Two Remain

On Monday, the final table of the 2013 WSOP Main Event, known as the November Nine, finally reconvened with one immediate objective in mind: to play down to the heads-up stage. The two players who emerged with their tournament lives still unscathed were Ryan Riess and Jay Farber. Farber will be the one to start the home stretch of the Main Event with the larger stack, and thus – at least mathematically – he stands a better chance to take home the $8.36 million top prize.
Farber currently has 105 million chips to Riess’ 85.6 million, so things are looking good for him indeed.

The first player to see his WSOP championship dreams go up in smoke was Mark Newhouse, the player who had entered the November Nine second in chips. The one who sent Newhouse packing was Ryan Riess, whose A,Ko won the coin-flip against Newhouse’s pocket 9s.
David Benefield bit the dust two hands later. He was bounced by Farber.
The next one to go was Michiel Brummelhuis. The Dutchman managed a double-up, but only two hands later, his pocket 9s proved too little against Riess’ pocket rockets.

Marc-Etienne McLaughlin was the one who was sent packing in 6th place, following a rather extended 6-way battle. He picked up pocket Ks and pushed all-in on them against Farber’s pocket rockets. The hand gave Farber a massive stack heading into the final stages of the day. Farber then added more chips to his stack when he bounced JC Tran in 5th place.
Frenchman Sylvain Loosli was the next victim of the final table: he as all-in with a Q,7o on the 170th hand of the final table, and he got called by Farber, who had an A,10. Hardly had Loosli gotten up from the table, Amir Lehavot had his tournament run curbed in 3rd place, his pocket 7s no match to Riess’ pocket 10s.
