2013 WSOP Main Event – Day 4 in the Books

5 levels of action went into the 4th day of the
2013 WSOP Main Event too, but what 5 levels they were…There was so much going on today at the Main Event, representatives of the poker press barely knew where to look and what to cover first. First of all: the money bubble burst. Indeed, for the 666 players who came back to the tables at the beginning of the day, that was the main objective. Set for 649th place, the money bubble was tantalizingly close from the get-go. 18 players were sent home with nothing to show for their efforts but the proverbial wooden spoon. The one who busted in the most un-enviable position – that of the bubble boy – was Farzad Bonyadi, who was bounced by Nick Schwarmann on a classic A,Jo vs A,Qo match-up.
Christian Harder and Ronnie Bardah had the eyes of the press on them, since they had both cashed for 4 straight years at the WSOP’s Main Event and a similar performance this year would’ve set a new record. They both made it indeed: Harder bit the dust in 608th place, picking up a $19.1k prize for his efforts. Bardah on the other hand managed to survive day 4, finishing with 932k chips to his name.
After the money bubble burst, the pace of the eliminations picked up quite a bit. It was during this stage that the field was forced to wave bye to living legend Doyle Brunson.
Brunson got his last chips into the middle with a K,10o against Sergei Stazhkov’s pocket 10s. The board failed to improve either hand involved and Brunson was sent packing.
The reigning champion of the event, Greg Merson, on the other hand had another great day. He is still alive with a stack of 635k chips.
Jon Lane finished the day with the largest stack.
