2013 WSOP – Mark Radoja Wins Event #16

Event #16, the $10k Heads-up NL Holdem one of the
2013 WSOP has come to an end a couple of hours ago and the player who had his had raised in victory was Mark Radoja. Although Radoja is far from being an unknown at the green felt, his win came as a bit of a surprise for most of the railbirds who had their eyes squarely on
online poker wiz Ben Sulsky.
Sulsky was one of the 4 players returning to the tables on the last day of the
poker tournament, and he took on Don Nguyen in one of the two semi-finals. The other one saw Justin Bonomo square off against the eventual winner.
The semi-final heads-up bout however didn’t go well for Sulsky. He lost all his chips within just 41 hands, clearing the way for Nguyen into the final. The last hand of their heads-up battle saw Nguyen get him all-in while holding 8d, 2d against Sulsky’s A,Jo. There was no question Sulsky had the better hand but the board fell K,9,7,J,10 to give his opponent a straight and the win.
In the other semi-final, Bonomo seemed to control the action early on, but Lady Luck wouldn’t side with him despite him being the aggressor. Radoja basically took down all the pots that really mattered. The last hand of their heads-up bout saw Radoja’s A,10 get the better of Bonomo’s Jd, 7d.
The final heads-up match kicked off half an hour later and it saw Nguyen grab the early advantage. Radoja was forced to use up an add-on but he managed to turn the tide for good about halfway through the match when he doubled up. In the last hand of the event, Nguyen’s A,3o fell to Radoja’s Ks, 9s after the latter got hit by a K on the river.
