2013 WSOP – Matt Perrins Wins Event #57

Another event which required a Day 4 to play down to a winner was event #57, the $5k NL Holdem one of the 2013 WSOP. Day 4 wasn’t the sort of brief return of the last two remaining players like we’ve seen in other events: it lasted 7 hours and it took 136 hands for Britain’s Matt Perrins to finally get his hands on the bracelet and the $92.2k prize. Although the general poker public may not know a whole lot about Perrins, he’s definitely not new to the WSOP. In fact, this bracelet was his second one since he won a NL 2-7 Lowball event back in 2011.

The beginning of the day saw 9 players hit he green felt. The first player to be bounced was short-stack Kent Roed, who lost a marginal hand after his A,Jo fell to Randal Flowers’ A,Qo.
The next one to go was Joe Serock, sent to the rail by the eventual winner, Perrins. Serock’s elimination gave Perrins wings apparently as he scored the next elimination too: Randal Flowers was his victim that time around. His pocket Ks fell to Perrins’ A,K for the bust.
The first player to take home more than $100k for his efforts was Thomas Muehloecker, who was bounced by Antonio Buonanno, and who picked up $129.4k for his efforts.
Matt Berkey was the next victim and the one who followed him to the rail was Buonanno himself, who failed to put Muehloecker’s chips to good use.
Seth Berger’s elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the poker tournament between Perrins and Arthur Pro.
Perrins had 10 chips to every one of his opponent’s when the heads-up action kicked off. Pro didn’t go quietly, but in the end he went nonetheless, unable to defy the odds any longer.
PokerStars are without a doubt the top destination for 2013 WSOP Main Event qualifiers.
