2013 WSOP – Sandeep Pulusani Wins Event #44

Event #44 of the
2013 WSOP, the $3k NL Holdem one, went into the books earlier today, and its winner was Sandeep Pulusani, who defeated start of the day chip leader Niall Farrell heads-up. Pulusani took home the bracelet and the $592.6k top prize. Like any
NL Holdem event (or rather like any OTHER event of the WSOP), event #44 had quite a few “name” competitors playing. Sorel Mizzi never made it to day 3: he busted in 90th place. Eddy Sabat and Matt Marafioti finished deeper, but they failed to make the last day as well.
A total of 22 players returned to action at the beginning of the day, looking to play down to the winner. It took them around 5 hours to accomplish that objective.
Unlike some of the above said players,
PokerStars pro Jason Mercier was in the mix at the beginning of the day. He started out well and he chipped up nicely, only to suddenly bite the dust in 16th place, at the receiving end of a monumental bad beat which saw his full house fall.
The field reached the final table relatively easily and soon the first victim of the home dash of the event headed to the rail: Phillippe Vert was bounced in 9th place, followed by Pedro Rios in 8th.
Nam Le followed them to the rail in 7th place after another spectacular bad beat.
Mark Teltscher and Zo Karim followed. Martin Hanowski bit the dust next, followed by Michael Rocco.
Rocco had played extremely well before the final table, but once the home stretch was reached, Lady Luck turned against him with vengeance. His last hand saw his pocket 6s fall to Farrell’s pocket Ks.
The last hand of the event saw Pulusani make a pair with his kicker as both players had aces.
