The second day of the $1.5k PLO event, #22 of the
2013 WSOP, is in the books and the final table has been set. 117 players returned to the action at the beginning of the day, looking to make as deep a run in the poker tournament as possible. Obviously, like in all 2013 WSOP events thus far, there were quite a number of “name” players involved in the green felt hostilities and as such, quite a few of them were bounced during Day 2.
Kevin Boudreau was in fact the very first victim of the day. He picked up $2.6k for his efforts, quite flimsy consolation for dropping out of the race for the gold. David Sklansky – who is quite probably the best known poker strategy theoretician out there – was among the early victims as well: he was bounced in 114th place, picking up just as small a reward as Boudreau.
Max Pescatori, Ben Tollerene, Leif Force and Joseph Cheong also fell during the early going. Cheong at least managed to break into the top 100: he finished 93rd, picking up a $2.8k reward.
The pace of eliminations didn’t slow after the top 100 was reached and “name” players were hitting the rail just as regularly as before.
Paul Volpe fell during this stage, as did Nick Binger and Alexander Kostritsyn. Jeremy Ausmus and Ana Marquez bit the dust too: Marquez picked up $7k for her 34th place.
PokerStars’ Noah Schwartz played well through the day, but he only really took off after the field had played down to the final 30. Christopher Brammer was the one who kick-started his climb through the ranks by donating him a massive pot. After he crippled Brammer, Schwartz returned to finish him off for good.
