2013 WSOP – Steve Gross Wins Event #41

Steve Gross’ has been a well known name on the online poker circuit for years, and even at the live tables for quite a while. Up until today though, the majority of the success Gross had encountered at the green felt came at the online tables, therefore he could in fact be called an online player rather than a regular poker pro. Today however, he has probably shed that moniker forever, earning his live poker stripes with a spectacular win in the $5k PLO Six-handed event (#41 of the
2013 WSOP). Gross survived a starting field of 400 players, taking down his first gold bracelet and the $488.8k prize that came with it.
He began the final day of the action in a rather favorable position: he was the chip leader but even though he did have a large stack indeed, he was forced to relinquish his top dog position shortly after the third day kicked off. It took the field two hours to play down to the final 12. Roland Israelashvili was among those eliminated during this stretch. Sorel Mizzi and Trevor Pope were eliminated before the final 12 was reached too. By the time the dinner break was reached, Timo Pfutzenreuter had the chip lead.
Yevgeniy Timoshenko fell on the final table bubble: he was bounced by Pfutzenreuter.
Nader Arfai bit the dust in 6th place, Lee Goldman in 5th and Joseph Leung was eliminated in 4th. Salman Behbehani, Pfutzenreuter and Gross were left standing during the 3-handed stage of the
poker tournament. Surprisingly, Pfutzenreuter was the first one to hit the rail, picking up $194.1k for his efforts. It took Gross about 40 hands to dispose of Behbehani. The latter was rewarded with $301.9k for his efforts, not a shabby haul either…
