2013 WSOP – Steve Sung Wins Event #52

Today, another major event of the 2013 WSOP played down to its winner. Event #52, the $25k NL Holdem 6-handed one, was something of a high roller, as the massive buy-in had a rather prohibitive effect on the starting field. Indeed, only high profile players registered for this one, and as a direct consequence of that, the action turned out to be quite spectacular indeed.
18 players retuned on the third and final day of the poker tournament to play down to a winner.
Christian Harder came into the day as one of the short-stacks and indeed, he became one of the early victims of the home dash. He was joined on the rail by Fabian Quoss, Marvin Rettenmaier, Todd Terry, David Baker, Igor Kurganov, and Kevin Eyster. The unofficial final table was reached when the field reached the final 7. Of course, one more player needed to go for the official 6-handed final stretch to be reached. That player was Shannon Shorr, who was bounced after about two and half hours of back and forth among the remaining players. The one responsible for his demise was Phil Galfond, who would go on and make the heads-up stage of the event.

Before that however, several others had to go. Richard Lyndaker was the first victim of the final table. He was followed to the rail by Max Lehmanski, the player who had the largest stack at the beginning of the day. Phil Galfond was the one who sent him to the rail as well. Stephen Chidwick fell next, followed to the rail by Dani Stern. Stern himself would be the next victim: he was bounced by Galfond and the heads-up stage was set.
After a little bit of back and forth, the winner was decided. Sung’s J,10 got the better of Galfond’s K,Q, in the last hand of the day.
PokerStars’ online WSOP 2013 qualifiers offer some outstanding value.
