2013 WSOP – Teichert Wins Event #56

The 4th day of event #56, the $2.5k NL Holdem one of the 2013 WSOP, finally crowned a winner: Nikolaus Teichert walked away with the title and the $730.7k top prize, after he disposed of Vincent Maglio heads-up in just 26 hands. The final hand was indeed a lucky one for Teichert, but with Lady Luck firmly on his side, having spiked a 3-outer, he proved that he was indeed true WSOP championship material. The heads-up stage of the event had actually begun towards the end of the third day, but the two players still alive failed to conclude the bout. The conclusion was thus postponed for Day 4.
Teichert was the one who managed to grab the initiative on Day 3, during the early stages of their heads-up battle, and he continued to ride that momentum on Day 4. Hands #125 through #131 were the ones during which Teichert asserted his control on Day 3.

On Day 4, he never really allowed his opponent to get anything going. Starting with hand #144, the end floated into sight for Maglio. After a couple of back and forth hands, hand #150 turned out to be the decisive one: Maglio was the one who kick-started the action by firing out a $240k raise. In response to that, Teichert pushed all-in and his opponent made the call.
It turned out that Teichert had an Ah, 2h against Maglio’s Ac, 10c and he was obviously well behind.
The flop fell K,A,3 rainbow and Maglio looked well on his way to doubling up and turning the tables on his opponent. The 9d fell on the turn, followed by the 2c on the river and Maglio was done.
Before this victory, Teichert had only $211.7k to his name in tournament profits.
