2013 WSOP – Tom Schneider Wins Event #15

Event #15 of the 2013 WSOP finally went into the books a few minutes ago, and the player who picked up the latest bracelet awarded by this year’s Series is Tom Schneider. Schneider bested Ahmed Owais heads-up after a rather exhausting heads-up battle. The $1.5k HORSE event drew an initial starting field of 862 players, of which quite a number were high profile “name” pros, given the mixed games nature of the poker tournament. Schneider is by no means a newcomer to the WSOP: he’s already won two bracelets, one of them in a Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo Eight or Better event and the other one in a Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo Eight or Better event, so it’s safe to say at this point that he is quite the mixed games specialist indeed.

Day 3 of event #15 saw 21 players return to the tables. At the start of the action, Schneider was 5th in chips, and he took full advantage of his large stack status indeed. He played well through the day, maintaining his stack near the top of the pops, but he then happened upon a crucial hand which turned out to be a true game-changer at the top: it was a Stud eight or better hand, which he played against Owais and at the end of which he scooped up about 80% of the chips in play. He made a 6-low and a pair of 10s, and Owais couldn’t catch up with either the high or the low, giving up the entire pot. The action was three-handed then, but after the move, the heads-up stage wasn’t far off.
The final hand of the event was a Razz one, in which Schneider made a 7-5 to score the win and to pick up the $258.9k top prize.
