2013 WSOPE Main Event – Day 1B Report

French player Ludovic Lacay may have been edged out by Noah Schwartz of the US on Saturday in one of the preliminary 2013 WSOP-E events, but on Sunday, he went right back to work, on Day 1B of the Main Event, and despite the teasing coming from the other players at his table, he managed to keep focused and he finished not only with the biggest stack for the day, but with the overall chip lead too. Lacay had 163k chips bagged, most of which landed on his side of the table following a late confrontation which saw his pocket rockets triumph over an opponent’s pocket Ks for a massive pot.
Other players who finished the day with large stacks were Ravi Raghavan (who had 155.2k chips bagged), Igor Kurganov (who finished the day with 136.4k chips), and Loni Harwood, who built a stack of 112.9k.

Harwood was the beneficiary of a major mistake on the part of one of his opponents, who raised more than he intended to and then stuck it out with a junk starting hand against Harwood’s pocket Ks and another player’s A,Qo. Harwood’s hand held and she took down a substantial pot.
A bunch of notables played on Day 1B and many of them managed to advance. PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu was in the mix and he advanced too, together with Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey and JC Tran. All these players finished with relatively shallow stacks though.
Ole Schemion on the other hand almost crossed the 100k chip mark, so he will be in a much better position come Day 2.
With all the “name” players advancing, there were obviously a few notables who fell by the side. Scott Seiver was among the victims, together with Juha Helppi. Liv Boeree and Phil Laak were also eliminated.
