2013 WSOPE Main Event – Day 2 Report

The second day of the
WSOP-E’s Main Event was an action-packed one, which claimed the tournament life of many a “name” player and at the end of which 69 players remained standing. The one who finished the day with the largest stack was German pro Dominik Nitsche, who had 504.8k chips bagged.
France’s Ludovic Lacay, the start of the day chip leader, finished with 406.2k chips to his name. Benny Spindler and Ariel Celestino had good day 2 runs too.
A good part of Nitsche’s end-of-the-day, pack-leading stack came from one of the last hands of the day, from Eric Sfez, with whom he got into a betting battle on a board of 8c,5s,As,Jh,5d while holding pocket Qs. It turned out Sfez only had an 8,7o and Nitsche picked up a bunch of his chips.
Fabrice Soulier finished the day with a large stack as well, and many of his chips came from Phil Hellmuth. The two first tangled in what turned out to be a classic coin-flip, as Soulier’s pocket Js bested Hellmuth’s A,Ko. That hand left Hellmuth’s tournament odds in shambles, and a bit later, he got sent to the rail for good by the same Soulier. Loni Harwood kicked off the betting in what would turn out to be the Poker Brat’s last hand. Hellmuth pushed all-in in response, and Harwood made the call, but then Soulier pushed all-in as well and she got out of the way. The Frenchman then showed an A,Ko against Hellmuth’s A,Qo, and the board brought nothing to bail out the Brat.
Loni Harwood would also get bounced later in the day by Flavien Guenan.
Another big name to hit the rail on Day 2 was Phil Ivey, whose pocket 4s fell to Igor Kurganov’s Q,J for the bust. Kurganov later bit the dust himself.
