2013 WSOPE Main Event – Day 3 Report

The 3rd day of the 2013 WSOPE’s Main Event saw the field play down to the final 24. The player whose elimination in 25th place signaled the end of the day was none other than PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu. The one leading the 24 survivors into Day 4 is Spain’s Adrian Mateos, who finished with a stack of 1,066,00 chips. Other players who did well on Day 3 were Daniel Steinberg (the only other competitor to climb above the 1 million chip mark), Ivan Tikhov, and start of the day chip leader Dominik Nitsche of Germany, who finished with 768k chips. Fabrice Souiler of France finished with a more than healthy stack as well, his 756k chips enough for 5th place.

Most of Mateos’ chips came during the 17th level of action, when he managed to eliminate Scott Clements. The two players pushed all-in with an A,8o vs A,Qo respectively, and despite having started out with the worse hand, Mateos won, when two more 8s landed on the board. Jeremy Ausmus was among the Day 3 survivors as well, together with Benny Spindler and Ludovic Lacay, himself one of the early chip leaders.
Daniel Negreanu’s final hand saw him push everything into the middle with a K,10o. The one who made the call was Serbia’s Ognjen Secularac, who tabled an A,Ko. Secularac’s superior starting hand proceeded to make a Broadway Straight, and Negreanu was sent packing.

On Tuesday, the €25.6k High Roller of the 2013 WSOP-E got underway. 75 players coughed up the buy-in for this event, and at the end of the day, 62 were left standing. The one to finish with the largest stack was Sorel Mizzi, who had 268.2k chips bagged. Scott Seiver and Antonio Esfandiari finished with large stacks too.
Jason Mercier and Phil Ivey will return on Day 2 as well.
