2014 Aussie Millions - $100k Challenge Sets Records

The first day of the $100k Challenge event of the 2014 Aussie Millions was a superb poker spectacular, complete with just about everything that makes such tournaments awesome. The buy-in was massive, yet several players quite literally abused the re-buy option. Poker pros Isaac Haxton and Daniel Negreanu each bought in no fewer than 5 times. While the face of
PokerStars managed to eventually finish the day in possession of a 221.5k stack, Haxton blew the very last of his buy-ins too. In the end, he invested some $500k and his time/efforts, with absolutely nothing to show for it.
The one who finished the day with the largest stack was Mike McDonald, who had some 468.5k chips bagged.
Paul Newey and Richard Yong made the top of the pops as well. Newey finished second with 428.5k chips, while Yong ended up with 379.5k.
Antonio Esfandiari had a good Day 1 run as well: he finished with 364k chips, enough for 4th place. He was followed by Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan.
At the end of the day, a total of 66 buy-ins had gone into the middle, as 40+ unique players played. It’s needless to say that each and every one of these players was a genuine high-rolling poker heavy-weight.
Besides the above said front runners, Justin Bonomo, Jason Mercier, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Viktor Blom and Fabian Quoss also had their tickets punched for Day 2. They will be joined at the tables by Patrik Antonius and Ryan Riess.
Registration will remain open until the beginning of Day 2, so still more buy-ins may indeed end up in the middle.
Tobias Reinkemeier may have busted out on Day 1, but he’s rumored to be planning a Day 2 re-buy. Even though they’re tied up in the Main Event, Sorel Mizzi and Scott Seiver may also buy in on Day 2.
