On Sunday, the Main Event of the Aussie Millions saw 7 players return to the tables of the Crown Melbourne to play down to a winner. Ami Barer was the one who had the largest stack at the beginning of the day and thus the best odds to take home the title, and he did indeed become the last player standing after some 12 hours of action. The reward of the winner tipped the scales at AUD$1.6 million. The player Barer disposed of heads-up was Sorel Mizzi. Mizzi took home a swell AUD$1 million for his efforts.
There were no deals at the top in this
poker tournament – unlike in the $25k Challenge – and there were mostly “name” pros finishing at the top in this one too. Third place went to Jake Balsiger, who took down AUD$650k. Darren Rabinowitz and Vincent Rubianes followed him in 4th and 5th places respectively.
When the action kicked off, all the players involved were riding some pretty deep stacks, so no one was in a hurry to put his tournament life onto the line. At that pace, it took around 3 hours for the first elimination to happen. The victim of it was Scott Seiver, who pushed all-in with pocket 8s. Darren Rabinowitz made the call with A,10o and he proceeded to catch another A on the flop. Seiver picked up AUD$170k.
The next elimination was that of Andrew Phaedonos. Sorel Mizzi sent him packing after the last Australian of the field ran into his pocket rockets.
Vincent Rubianes then made a similar exit, having run into Rabinowitz’s pocket rockets.
The next player to bite the dust was Rabinowitz himself, his pocket 5s no good against the pocket 9s of Ami Barer.
Balsiger was bounced by Barer in 3rd place, after which Mizzi ran into Barer’s pocket rockets for the final bust of the day.
