2014 Aussie Millions Main Event – Day 1B Report

The second day 1 flight of the 2014 Aussie Millions Main Event saw 153 players belly up to the tables. Uncharacteristically, there were fewer participants on Day 1B than on Day 1A, a fact which can be explained by its overlapping with the Super Bowl.
A total of seven 90-minute levels of action went into the day, at the end of which 81 players were left standing. The one who finished the day with the largest stack was Dean Schneider, who had some 188.8k chips bagged.
Gareth Dwyer had a good Day 1B run as well: he finished with 161.1k chips to his name. Michael Hussey and Michael Laming finished with more than decent stacks as well. Antonio Esfandiari and Erik Seidel were also among those who had their Day 2 tickets punched on Day 1B. Seidel finished with 116.8k, while Esfandiari only had 77.7k bagged.

Germany’s Christoph Vogelsang, one of the players who traveled to Australia specifically to play in the Aussie Millions high rollers, was one of the early victims of the day. He was bounced by Sassine Ghazale, after the latter’s As,9s got the better of his A,Qo. Aaron Benton and David Gorr were also bounced, together with the defending champion of the event, Mervin Chan, whose title defense hopes were thusly dashed.
Last year, Chan took down a $1.6 million prize, but this year, he will obviously not follow it up in any way. The player responsible for Chan’s elimination was Sotirios Kappas.
Chan’s last hand of the poker tournament saw him make a Broadway straight, but Kappas got really lucky and he made a runner-runner boat to send the champion packing.
The event will feature a third Day 1 too, a flight which is expected to draw players like PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu, Scott Seiver and Jason Mercier.
PokerStars’ online qualifiers offer players a direct path into some of the richest and most generous live poker events world-over.
