The third and final Day 1 flight of the 2014 Aussie Millions Main Event saw 328 players belly up to the tables. That means the actual size of the starting field is currently 657 players, which is already bigger than last year’s field in this same event. Of course, with registration open till the beginning of Day 2, these numbers may yet go up, so the final world on the size of the field and the size of the prize-pool is yet to come in.
The player who finished Day 1C with the largest stack, was Martin Rowe. Rowe had some 228k chips bagged at the end of the day. Rowe’s lead was established during one of the last few hands of the day, when he managed to take down a massive pot. He had a pair of 10s in the pocket, on a board of 6,2,4,10 rainbow, and he pushed all-in.
Unfortunately for him, one of his opponents had the 5,3 for the nut straight. Another 6 fell on the river though, pairing the board, and turning Rowe’s set into a full house for the win.
Another player who did well on Day 1C was
PokerStars’ Jason Mercier. Mercier stitched together a rather incredible run at one point during the day: first, he made a set of threes, followed by a full and capped off by a straight flush in the very next hand. With cards like that, it didn’t exactly come as a surprise that Mercier finished with 132.2k chips to his name. Max Lehmanski and Tom Alner finished with solid stacks as well.
The winner of the $25k Challenge, Germany’s Max Altergott, played on Day 1C too. His tournament life was snapped by a floater who made a Broadway straight against his two pair.
