2014 Aussie Millions Main Event – Day 3 Report

The third day of the 2014 Aussie Millions Main Event was hard on large stack Gareth Dwyer, who at one point had even held the chip lead in the
poker tournament. Dwyer’s Main Event run got cut short by a perfect hand, from which the Day 3 chip leader arose in the end. Dwyer got his chips into the middle in one of the last hands of Day 3, holding a set of 4s. Little did he know that Salvatore Fazzino had made a set of Js on the same flop. There was nothing on the turn and the river that would bail Dwyer out, and he was bounced with Day 4 well in sight.
The other start of the day large stack, Sorel Mizzi, put together a much better run though, finishing Day 1 with more than 1 million chips to his name. Scott Seiver also finished with a large stack.
Most of Seiver’s chips came during the 18th level of action, when he locked horns with Florian Bussman. The two pushed a bunch of chips into the middle before the flop, and it turned out they were locked in a sort of a perfect hand showdown too: Bussman pocket Ks against Seiver’s pocket rockets. The rockets held, and they propelled Seiver to the top of the chip counts. In the end, Seiver finished with 1.13 million chips, enough for third place. The second-place man was Darren Rabinowitz, who finished with 1.23 million. Sorel Mizzi was 4th with 1.09 million chips.
Several Team
PokerStars Pro members were among the survivors of Day 3. Jason Mercier will return for Day 4, together with Jonathan Duhamel and Liv Boeree.
One of the major highlights of the day was the bursting of the money-bubble. Luke Downs was the unfortunate bubble-boy, eliminated by Patrick Healy.
