2014 Master Classics of Poker: Ruben Visser Wins

The latest edition of the Master Classics of Poker Main Event turned out to be an extremely interesting affair, which went down to the wire between eventual winner Ruben Visser, and eventual runner-up David Boyaciyan. The background story of the affair was that had Boyaciyan won, he would’ve become the first player ever to take down the title two times. Unfortunately for him though, Visser came through and took home the title, together with the bragging rights and the €225k top prize. It took the field 4 days to play down to the winner, and that almost became five days: there were but 35 minutes left till the casino would be forced to close, when the winner was finally decided.
It was a rather fortunate happenstance too that they managed to wrap up the poker tournament: with the two remaining players quite even in chips at the start of the heads-up stage, it only took Visser two hands to put his opponent away and to secure victory.
Play at PokerStars, by far the biggest and the best online poker operation out there, with a tournament selection without a peer in the industry.

The reason why Visser “only” ended up with €225 to his name was that during three-handed play, the two finalists and Andrew Chen had reached a deal. Chen, who faded away in 3rd place eventually, was rewarded with €190k. The runner-up, Boyaciyan, earned €178k, so less than Chen.
The final day of the action started off on the right foot for everyone, and on a very wrong one for defending champion Noah Boeken, who bit the dust in the very first hand. Boeken put his tournament life onto the line with pocket 10s, and he got called by Ole Schemion, who had pocket Qs. Both players proceeded to make a set, but alas, it was all too little, too late for Boeken.
