2014 PCA: $100k High Roller – Day 2 Report

The second day of the PCA’s $100k High Roller saw the field make great progress, playing right down to the final table. Lots of milestones were put in the rearview mirror on Day 2 indeed: the money bubble burst, a whole bunch of name players were sent packing and eventually the final table bubble burst as well. The identity of the chip leaders who emerged at the end of the day, albeit none too surprising, was a pleasant twist for most poker fans too: Dan Shak was the one who clinched the chip lead, having built up a stack of 3.7 million chips. Vanessa Selbst finished second with 3.64 million chips, while Antonio Esfandiari’s 2.83 million chips were enough for 3rd place.
The other players who made the final table cut were Fabian Quoss (2.64 million chips), Matt Glantz, Tony Gregg and Ole Schemion. The official short-stack of the home stretch of the
poker tournament is the German, who only had 280k chips bagged.
The day began with 40 players returning to the tables, and since pretty much all of them were “name” competitors, it came as no surprise that only well-known pros headed to the rail all day long.
After the field worked its way down to the final 12, they took a dinner break. Vanessa Selbst then sent Bryn Kenney packing as soon as they returned from the break. Kenney had an A,Ko against Selbst’s Ac, 9c, but the latter proceeded to make a club flush to score the KO.
Igor Kurganov was the next victim of the day. Selbst was the one responsible for his elimination too. Ole Schemion then disposed of his fellow countryman Max Altergott in 10th place. The action on the bubble lasted for a while, but then Paul Newey and Mike McDonald were both sent packing, with the former going down as the bubble-boy of the tournament.
