2014 PCA: $100k Super High Roller – Fabian Quoss Wins

Germans have dominated the high stakes tournament action last year and during the opening stages of the 2014 PCA’s $100k Super High Roller, it looked like their domination would extend into the New Year without problems. The German chip leaders then fell by the side, the myth of their invincibility apparently shattered, but in the end it was still a German who clinched the win and the top prize of $1.63 million. Fabian Quoss was the one who took down the poker tournament, despite the fact that at the beginning of the final table action, Dan Shak held the chip lead and thus the best odds.
Unlike most EPT final tables, which are 8-handed, this one was a 7-handed affair due to a double elimination, which was responsible for the setting of the final stage of the event.
The final table was quite a sight to behold. Besides Dan Shak, the chip leader, Vanessa Selbst and Antonio Esfandiari were still in contention as well. Ole Schemion and Tony Gregg were playing as well, though their stacks were the official short stacks.
As soon as the action kicked off, they both sought to get something going, but they didn’t get far: they were both bounced on the second hand of the final table by the eventual winner. Quoss had pocket 10s against their A,9o and Kd, 4d.

Matt Glantz was the next player to bite the dust. He was sent packing by Vanessa Selbst and he picked up $445.5k for his efforts.
Selbst then got it all-in against Esfandiari on a classic coin-flip, with an A,Ko against the Magician’s pocket 9s. An A landed on the turn and Esfandiari was done.
Selbst fell next, setting up the heads-up stage of the event between Quoss and Shak. The heads-up action – which commenced after the dinner break - lasted for about an hour.
