2014 PCA $25k High Roller – Day 2 Report

Sunday saw the second day of the 2014 PCA’s $25k High Roller go into the books, and there were few surprises in regards to how the event has thus far unfolded. At the end of the second day of action, the chip lead went to Vanessa Selbst, the
PokerStars pro who is the reigning champion of this tournament. Selbst finished the day with 1.63 million chips to her name.
Last year, Selbst walked away with $1.42 million from this same event, so it’s safe to say she has some useful experience under her belt, but she still has quite a selection of “name” pros to deal with if she wants to pull the same stunt this year. Ole Schemion made it to Day 3 too, together with Daniel Negreanu, Robert Mizrachi, Dan Smith and Greg Merson.
The player who finished with the second largest stack of 1.6 million chips was Joao Oliveira. Marvin Rettenmaier finished the day with a large stack too: his ~1 million chips enough for 6th place.
At the end of the day, only 14 players were left standing. Besides all the above mentioned competitors, Aleksandr Denisov made the cut too, with a stack of 626k chips. Businessman Paul Newey is among the survivors as well: he had 162k chips bagged, which makes him the official short-stack for the beginning of the 3rd day.
While Newey may not make a huge splash come Day 3, he is already guaranteed to have surpassed all his previous poker accomplishments, which only total $4.4k from a cash finish at the last edition of the
PCA.
Selbst on the other hand, has been riding quite a cash-streak at the PCA thus far. She finished 3rd in the $100k Super High Roller, for a $760.6k prize, and she made it to 42nd place in the Main Event, picking up some $32k.
