2014 PCA Main Event – Day 1B Report

The second day 1 flight of the 2014 PCA Main Event drew a much larger starting field than Day 1A. A total of 710 players bellied up to the tables, and when the day was called, there were still 475 players left in contention. The one who managed to close out the day with the largest stack was Shankar Pillai, who ended up with 173.9k chips to his name.
One of the most highlight-reel worthy moments of the day came early on, at the expense of PokerStars’ Fatima Moreira de Melo, who made a boat and staked her tournament life on it, only to lose out to an opponent’s quads, hitting the rail barely having tasted the action. Harrison Gimbel, one of the former PCA Main Event winners, saw action on Day 1B too. He did well for a while and at one point he managed to chip up massively, when his pocket Qs held up against an opponent’s A,Q. Towards the end of the day though, he too was sent packing, with nothing to show for his buy-in and efforts.

Another player who was sent packing with the proverbial wooden spoon, was Kevin MacPhee, who barely made it to the Bahamas, following some travel-related issues. He too was bounced, his troublesome trip not having earned him anything at the end of it all.
Another “name” victim of the day was Kyle Julius, who got crippled by Rens Feenstra first and then got bounced a few hands later. Feenstra went on to finish the day with 148.4k chips.
Another player who made it through to Day 2 was PokerStars’ Vanessa Selbst. Selbst, who had made it to 3rd place in the $100k Super High Roller just a couple of days before – earned her Day 2 seat behind a stack of 76.7k chips.
If you’re looking to make your way to an EPT stop like the PCA, forget about buying in directly. Sign up to PokerStars and use their online qualifiers instead.
