2014 PCA Main Event – Day 5 Report

The 5th and penultimate day of the 2014 PCA’s Main Event saw 20 players return to the tables, looking to play down to the official final table. Given that only 12 players needed to go before that objective was reached, Day 5 turned out to be an extremely short affair. The start of the day chip leader, Estonia’s Madis Muur managed to conserve his advantage: he will go into the final table action with the largest stack, after he finished day 5 with 6.2 million chips.
All the eyes were on Mike McDonald at the beginning of the day. Being the only remaining EPT Champion in the field, McDonald acquitted himself nicely of the expectations of the railbirds, finishing second with 5.6 million chips to his name.
With that, McDonald has set himself up nicely for a final table run, which may culminate in his taking home of the $1.82 million top prize, as well as in the crowning of the first ever two-time
EPT Main Event winner.
Roger Teska, one of the earlier chip leaders of the
poker tournament, was the first one to bite the dust on Day 5. Teska’s final hand saw him go all-in holding pocket 8s against Muur’s pocket 6s. The flop fell 3,4,5, giving Muur a straight draw, but the turn, which was the 9s, maintained Teska’s lead. The river was the 2s though filling Muur’s straight and sending Teska to the rail.
Robert Auer was the next victim, followed to the rail by Kyle Sorel. The next player to have his tournament life curbed was Adrian Bussman, who was bounced in 17th place.
Antoine Saout was eliminated next, by Pascal Lefrancois. The final table bubble-boy was none other than Max Silver. His final hand saw his Ad,4d fall to Lafrancois’ K,10o.
