2014 PCA Main Event – Dominik Panka Wins

The final day of the PCA’s Main Event was a truly spectacular affair, which saw the player who had all the eyes of the press on him at the beginning of the final table, make it all the way to the heads-up stage. Mike McDonald was the one who could’ve become the first ever double EPT champion. Although he came tantalizingly close to that lofty accomplishment, in the end, McDonald was forced to admit defeat, as Poland’s Dominik Panka got the better of him heads-up. Panka – who thus became the most profitable Polish player ever – took home the $1.42 million top prize after a 3-way deal at the top, which saw him, McDonald and Isaac Baron each lock up $1 million, with the rest of the prize-pool left to play for. This way, McDonald, who ended up 2nd, wasn’t even the second biggest winner. Third-place finisher Baron took that honor, with a $1.2 million prize. McDonald’s haul was $1.09 million.
Madis Muur, the start of the day chip leader, finished 4th for $581k.

The day kicked off on a rather cautious note. It took 3 hours for the first victim of the 8-handed final table to bite the dust. Fabian Ortiz was the player sent packing, and the one “guilty” for his elimination was McDonald, who thusly took the chip lead from Muur. The elimination came about at the end of a classic coin-flip, which saw McDonald’s pocket Qs hold up against Ortiz’s A,K.
The next elimination took even longer to accomplish. Pascal Lefrancois was sent packing in 7th place, some 4 hours later.
Shyam Srinivasan was the next player to bust out. He was followed by Daniel Gamez in 5th place and Madis Muur in 4th. Muur got his last chips into the middle on a Q,10, and he got called by Panka with an A,K.
