2014 WSOP – A Third of the Events are in the Books

With around a third of the 2014 WSOP already behind us, it is time to take a look back at some of the defining moments and trends that have thus far emerged. One thing that’s beyond the shadow of any doubt is that players from the US have thus far dominated this year’s Series. In fact, even to simply say they “dominated” would probably be an understatement in this case. The correct expression would be something like “they let no one else within striking distance of a bracelet”. Indeed, of the 23 bracelets awarded thus far, a mind-boggling 20 ended up in possession of US-based players. That’s an 87% win-rate, which does indeed make the term “domination” at least slightly inadequate.
Sign up to Full Tilt Poker and hit their 2014 WSOP qualifiers. This year, one of the best paths to the Main Event leads through Full Tilt Poker.

There are still 42 bracelets to be awarded, so players from other nations may still sneak into the bling, but if the trend keeps up, they won’t really get many chances.
Frankly, the fact that US players have so overwhelmingly dominated the Series does not come as a surprise. After all, Las Vegas is the scene of the action, the US contingent is obviously by far the most numerous and thus statistically most likely to dominate, but the fact that only two other countries have thus far managed to get on the winners’ list is indeed astonishing. Germany have secured two bracelets and Belgium one.
American domination is obvious in other WSOP stats too: so far, US players have had 2,720 cashes and won more than $38 million. To put that into perspective: Canada is second, with 270 cashes and $1.5 million in winnings.
