2014 WSOP Conference Call
Posted by: Jo Martin - Thu, 2014-05-15 06:09
With the 2014 edition of the biggest poker festival on the planet, the World Series of Poker, just around the corner, WSOP officials held a conference call a day ago in which they discussed the upcoming Series, and what players can expect at the green felt as well as in and around the venue entertainment-wise.
Tournament Director Jack Effel and Executive Director Ty Stewart were the ones who answered questions from members of the press, and reigning Main Event Champion Ryan Riess chimed in as well.

The official start date of the 2014 Series is May 27. Apparently, organizers expect the
2014 WSOP to be the richest one ever held, not just in terms of prizes awarded but also in the number and variety of side-attractions that will be made available. Apparently, this year, there will be new chairs at the Rio, as well as a new carpet, indoor blimps (yes, indeed), Frisbee dog shows and even a zip line, not to mention various promotions poker players may be interested in.
According to Stewart, this year’s edition of the WSOP will make more millionaires than ever before. The guarantees exceed $200 million, and the Main Event is set to feature a $10 million guarantee, which means that the winner of the Big Dance is already certain to take down the second-biggest prize ever awarded by a WSOP Main Event.
Although some have argued against the guarantee, the organizers are convinced that its potentially negative effects on the prizes will be offset by the size of the starting field, which – due to increased live and online satellite availability – is expected to handily beat last year’s attendance.
For the first time, WSOP.com will deliver players through its online satellites which will cover all bracelet events.
