2014 WSOP – Davidi Kitai Wins 3rd Bracelet

The third day of event #15 of the
2014 WSOP, the $3k 6-handed NL Holdem one, saw only 15 players return to its tables on its 3rd day, looking to play down to a winner. While – in light of the start-of-the-day field – that goal was not a particularly lofty one, it still proved to be one impossible to attain: the field did manage to play down to the heads-up stage, but the action was called before Davidi Kitai and Gordon Vayo could really decide in whose possession the gold would end up.

The interesting thing about Day 3 of the event was that Phil Hellmuth was still in contention indeed, among a number of other “name” pros. The Poker Brat’s 14th WSOP title bid fell well short of the mark again though: he was bounced in 8th place by Vayo, who would go on to make the heads-up stage.
Eventually, with everyone else out of the way, Vayo and Kitai would tear into each-other’s stacks in what turned out to be a marathon of a heads-up bout. Kitai had a massive chip lead when the heads-up action began: he had 5.84 million chips in his stack to Vayo’s 1.45 million. Vayo turned out to be the master of the short-stack though: he worked his way back into contention, and by the time the action came to a halt for the day, the two players were almost even in chips.
They returned on Sunday to play down to the winner, and in the end, it was Kitai who ended up with the title, adding a 3rd WSOP bracelet to his trophy case, which already contained poker’s Triple Crown.
Hellmuth had attempted a bit of verbal intimidation on the Frenchman when he was still in the action, but Kitai was no buyer for his antics.
