Tuesday was a big day for the
2014 WSOP: following a day with no bracelets awarded, Tuesday saw no fewer than 3 events play down to their respective conclusions, including the much-hyped, record-breaking Millionaire Maker.
Event #8 saw 9 players return to the final table, hoping to cross that magic $1 million mark prize-wise.
The first one to have his title dreams dashed was Maurice Hawkins, whose final hand had his pocket Qs run into Stephen Graner’s pocket Ks for the bust. His 9th place was worth $18.4k. Hawkins was indeed among the unluckiest players in the
poker tournament: following his elimination, the prize-distribution saw a massive bump, so the 8th place finisher, Andrew Dick, took home some $164.1k.

Dick was followed to the rail by Jason Johnson and Stephen Garner, as well as Bradley Anderson and Andrew Tang. Tang’s elimination marked another milestone: that of the $500k threshold. While Tang “only” picked up $465.k for his efforts, the next player to hit the rail, James Duke – whose elimination set up the heads-up stage of the event – was rewarded with $614.3k.
The home straight of the Millionaire Maker saw Jonathan Dimmig square off against Jeff Coburn. By that stage though Dimmig had way too big a lead and he did indeed hammer his advantage home, picking up the $1.31 million top prize. The runner-up’s share of the prize-pool was $815.9k.
Jeffrey Smith was the winner of event #9, a $1k
NL Holdem affair. He picked up $323.1k.
The other event to conclude on Tuesday was event #10, the $10k Limit Omaha Hi/Lo Championship one, which saw Brock Parker walk away with the goods. Parker’s payday tipped the scale at $443.4k.
