2015 EPT Barcelona - Super High Roller Day 1 Report

The Super High Roller of the 2015 EPT Barcelona stop started off on the right foot. Its first day drew no fewer than 93 registrations, of which 81 were unique-player buy-ins and 12 were re-buys. Considering the size of the buy-in, these numbers were rather impressive indeed. As a base of comparison: the same event only yielded 77 buy-ins last year. As far as this year's high roller is concerned, registration has remained open and it will be open till 12:15 PM on Sunday, so more buy-ins may yet be thrown into the middle.
The player who finished the day with the largest stack was Britain's Stephen Chidwick, who amassed a stack of 1.05 million chips to grab the top spot. Following him in second place was Christoph Vogelsang with a little over a million chips. No other players managed to climb into 7-figure territory.

Other players who finished the day with decent stacks were Mike McDonald (who bagged 855k chips), Jean-Noel Thorel (who finished with 775k) and Ben Tollerene, who will start Day 2 with 671.5k chips. Steve O'Dwyer, Dani Stern and Max Altergott finished within the top 10 as well.
Given that the field consisted mostly of "name" players, it came as no surprise that the bottom ranks were dominated by well-known pros as well. PokerStars pro Jason Mercier only managed to accumulate 84k chips, which means he'll be starting Day 2 as one of the short-stacks. He was joined in the cellars by Anthony Zinno and Patrick Antonius, who finished with 68.5k and 67.5k chips respectively. Nick Petrangelo is the official short-stack with 58.5k chips.
