2015 WSOP Colossus Breaks Scores of Records

The Colossus event of the 2015 WSOP was by all accounts a major success: the fanfare and the hype was great, the crowds likewise and the action did not disappoint: according to ex-PokerStars pro Greg Raymer, it was like the Main Event, with the difference that those found at the rail in Main Events were at the tables, playing now. Everyone expected the event to be a record-breaker in several ways, but for a long while, it wasn't exactly clear what sort of numbers it posted. The numbers are in now, and it is indeed time to take a look at how they stack up.
There were a total of 22,374 entrants, who combined buy-ins for a total prize-pool of $11,187,000. While in itself, the prize-pool wasn't particularly impressive, it was indeed the largest one ever, when only looking at events with a less than $5k buy-in.

The starting field on the other hand blew all previous records straight out of the water for a live poker tournament, regardless of the buy-in size. The previous record stood at some 8,773 players, set by the 2006 Main Event. This one topped it with authority, by some 225%.
A record was set in regards to the number of players paid too: 2,241 players will be paid, earning a minimum of $1,096.
Other records set were:
- the largest share of the winner in a $500 buy-in event at $638.8k.
- the biggest single-day attendance: some 12,172 entries were registered on Saturday.
- the total number of chips involved in the tournament: 111.87 million.
- a total of 982 dealers were involved in the tournament and 4,480 decks of cards were used.
