2015 WSOP Millionaire Maker Disappoints

The 2015 edition of the
World Series of Poker's Millionaire Maker - one of the most hotly anticipated events of the Series - fell short of its last year's numbers. With the official counts in, the starting field was set to 7,275 participants, falling well short of the record set last year, at the second edition of the Millionaire Maker, which saw some 7,977 players belly up to it tables. While the drop wasn't a really significant one in terms of raw numbers, it was still a disappointment for those looking for actual growth. The event did draw more players than the very first edition of the $1.5k Millionaire Maker, which featured a starting field of 6,343 players.
Despite the drop in attendance, the Millionaire Maker, which featured two distinct staring days this time around, will make a millionaire this year too: the winner of the poker tournament will walk away with a prize of $1.27 million and that will certainly not be disappointing.

A total of 747 players will be paid in the event, with min-cash set to $2.74k. What exactly was the cause of the drop in player numbers for the wildly popular tournament though? After all, the Colossus was massively successful, drawing in more players than any WSOP event ever. Ironically though, the Colossus' impressive numbers may have come at the expense of the Millionaire Maker to a certain extent.
Certainly, some of the players who would've played in the Millionaire Maker chose to buy into the Colossus instead this year. Regardless of the causes though, at this point it's safe to say that although it did fall short, the Millionaire Maker did manage to hold its own.
