2016 EPT Dublin - Day 2 Report

The EPT's 2016 Dublin Main Event set the bar high prize-pool-wise: Day 2 made the numbers clear after it registered some 15 additional entries. A total of 605 buy-ins went into the middle, which - at €5.3k apiece - made quite a bit: €2,934,250 to be exact. What that means is that a total of 87 spots will end up taking home money, and the winner's share will tip the scale at €561.9k. Day 2 was when the surviving fields of the two Day 1 flights first got together. Some 127 players kept their tournament hopes alive, among them scores of pros. In fact, it is safe to say Day 2 belonged to the pros: Mike McDonald was among the front-runners, as was Dominik Panka and Anthony Zinno. Many PokerStars pros also survived the day: Liv Boeree, Luca Pagano and Mickey Petersen were among these survivors, but at the end of the day, the person who had the most chips bagged was Ivan Banic from Croatia.

Other pros who made the cut, albeit on smaller stacks, were Steve O'Dwyer (who seems to be there in every EPT event these days), Dzmitry Urbanovich and Chris Moorman.
While Day 2 was indeed kind for professional players, not all "name" competitors found the going easy. In fact some of them ended up biting the dust: Martin Jacobson and Felipe Ramos were both bounced, joined on the sidelines by Kevin MacPhee and Mustapha Kanit. PokerStars' own George Danzer was among the victims too, together with Bertrand Grospellier and Theo Jorgensen. Jason Mercier and Jake Cody bit the dust too, unfortunately.
